MONTSERRAT CAÑÓN CASCALLANA, DIRECTOR OF NH GIJÓN, NEW PRESIDENT OF THE BUSINESS CLUB

The election yesterday afternoon of Montserrat Cañón Cascallana as President of the Governing Board of the Business Tourism Companies Club for the next four years completed the renewal process. The Club, which celebrates its twentieth anniversary this year, did not have a woman at the helm since its constitution in 2001. Another woman, Virginia Neira, a pioneer also from the hotel sector, led the new association during the first term.

The new President of the Club has extensive experience in the hotel sector, namely in the NH chain, where she started working as an intern in Oviedo. She also worked in Avilés and Madrid before being appointed the Director of NH Gijón when it opened in 2009. She was the Vice President of the outgoing Governing Board. However, she had to take on the duties of the presidency because of the unexpected departure of the President, Daniel Martínez Junquera, who joined the Gijón/Xixón Tourism Directorate. During this transitional period, she ran for the presidency, persuaded of the need to continue with the project and take on this responsibility at such a difficult time.

Besides the Director of NH Gijón, the other members of the Board who will remain in office are Silvia Suárez Rivera, representative of the professional conference organisers and Manager of Azul Congresos, and Juan Carlos Rodríguez Gago from Fase Extra Transmedia, representative of specialised services. Gerardo Álvarez of Blue Hoteles is the new Vice President.
